“Petroglyph X” is a series of paintings in which I examine the shared histories of all human cultures through an exploration of the oldest form of artwork ever produced. On cave walls all over the world and from every culture we find evidence of a creative drive that predates modern religion, modern society, even modern language. We, as humans, all share a common root in art and expression- a history that has, quite literally, been etched in stone.
Imagine living ten thousand years ago and feeling a desire to express the way you feel about Rain. Or the Moon. Or your Mother. Imagine needing to search for hours to find the simple ingredients you would need to make your paint. Imagine carving an image into a stone that would last for millennia using tools that you had to learn how to make. That very same creative drive exists today within all of us as a lamplight, showing us that we of a thousand different cultures all share a beautiful history together. The paintings in this series are reimaginations of real petroglyphs found all over the world in an attempt to encourage the viewer to connect on a personal level with the ancient origins of art and the artists who got us here.
My aim is to celebrate our human culture as a whole and to honor the ancestors that we all share- together and with love.
